FreelancerPlanning: from calculator to learning community
A transparent record of building, testing and changing a live web product when the first market direction showed weak traction.
Open the live website ↗FreelancerPlanning began with an automation-project pricing tool. The tool remains available, but early distribution did not provide enough evidence for the narrow direction. The new test focuses on guided, checked beginner builds and returning participation.
Build the smallest learning community that can test whether beginners will finish and share a real AI-assisted website. Preserve the existing calculator. Do not fabricate members, feedback or activity.
The existing live stack, privacy pages, contact system and calculator could be reused. Clear evidence gates stopped the pivot from becoming an unlimited feature build.
The first product served a narrow audience and personal LinkedIn outreach did not create enough traffic to judge demand. Planning documents also grew faster than customer evidence.
The public learning journey, sign-in flow, private workspace, moderation states, mobile layout and existing calculator are included in the release checklist.
Members must be adults in this first version. Public content is reviewed before publication, arbitrary HTML is not accepted and private drafts are protected by database policies.
Guide ten beginners personally and decide whether to continue from completed builds and returning participation, not page views alone.
